Tom Page is a visual artist and graphic designer who works freelance across illustration, design and painting since 2016.

Born in 1999 (and remembering ALL the goodness of the era), Tom grew up on the South Coast of New South Wales in a tiny town called Shoalhaven Heads. You have probably never heard of it but have most likely driven passed it. Raised on punk music, surfing, skating and the all-round laid back culture of coastal living, his work is credited to the elements exposed to him since he was a child.

His works are often satirical and sarcastic, inspired by real-world events or ideologies, softened by the use of nostalgic colours and imagery. An example of being ‘born in the wrong era’; pastel tones of the 60s and 70s mixed with a sense of 90s DIY by a middle finger are a common combination, giving a nod to Tom’s inspirations who came before the digital age.

Bound to work in the industry, Tom had a pencil and paintbrush in his hand since pre-school and was mesmerised by the use of colour and characters in Saturday morning cartoons. While watching Spongebob Squarepants while on holidays around the age of 6, his mum first introduced him to the world of Mambo (not particularly appropriate for a young child, but here we are. Thanks mum!) The pencil work of Matthew Martin and vivid colours of Reg Mombassa had him hooked. Rude words also contributed to the fascination of otherwise quiet and reserved Tom.

Years later Tom would find himself rubbing shoulders with some of his favourite contemporary street artists and designers, painting murals in the city with Mulga The Artist and contributing to Mambo’s 2016 Splendour In The Grass collaboration, painting with the likes of Ben Brown, Kentaro Yoshida and Lee McConnell. A real trip! These experiences threw buckets of fuel on the fire and inspired Tom to pursue art and design as more than just a hobby.

With three exhibitions under his belt; ACRES (2018), Solar Servo (2019) and HERE + NOW (2020), old-school word of mouth contributed to all works selling-out across each exhibition. His main piece of his collection in the HERE + NOW exhibition ended up being the promotional art piece for the group exhibition and was purchased by the Wollongong Art Gallery at the commencement of the exhibit. It is now on permanent display. Tom’s name has circled around local galleries and music venues with an ever-growing presence in the Australian music scene having worked with the likes of The Terrys, Teenage Joans, George Alice, Debbies, Pretty Uglys and Late 90s.

In early 2021, Tom was recruited by local legends at On Print / The Core Store in Gerringong where he quickly worked his way up to head graphic designer and production manager, overlooking the design, print and production of their seasonal collections. An eye opening role for a young designer. At the end of 2024, full-time freelance work was calling and Tom made the leap to follow his art and design aspirations. And here we are now!
